Audience VS Community

What's the difference between an Audience and a Community?

This image illustrated it very clearly, wait let me explain...

The Internet was built for communities. TV was built for audiences.

Somewhere along the way, the Internet started to look more like a TV. Evolution of platforms like Yioutube. It was around 2007 when social media and the iPhone were launched.

The advertising business model + algorithms + effortless posting of media from phones changed the Internets landscape from niche communities to influencer content creators.

There's a Zen saying:

"Once something develops to an extreme, it becomes its opposite".

I believe this is happening on the Internet right now.

There's so much content that people have become passive TV watchers on a powerful device. They're not actively engaging with people or doing real things. They're consuming.

Audiences, content, and influencers aren't going anywhere, they're here to stay. But we believe people are experiencing a deep need for connection with other people and active participation in real things.

The thing that's been missing is an economic model that incentivizes creators to build these kinds of communities online.

That's our mission with Skool.(visit Original skool platform here)
